Review Manhwa – Return of the Blossoming Blade

Return of the Blossoming Blade

A series tailored for wuxia enthusiasts and lovers of the beauty of plum blossoms. As its title says, the story revolves around the resurgence of the Mount Hua sect, showcasing the resilient revival of a grand ancient sect that had declined for centuries.

Since its debut, it has quickly risen to the top 5 ranking of manhwa, captivating countless readers with its compelling narrative. Let’s delve into the highlights of the story.

  1. Intro
  1. Plot

The main character of the story is Chung Myung, known as the Plum Blossom Sword Saint in his previous life, hailed as the greatest under heaven. He had slain the Heavenly Demon Cheon Ma, who had stained the entire world with blood – the leader of the Demonic Cult.

After this cutthroat battle, the Mount Hua sect won but had its entire army wiped out. Once considered the strongest sect among the nine sects, gathering the most elites among elites, both its leader and disciples perished on the peak of the Hundred Thousand Mountains.

Even Chung Myung – the hope of Mount Hua Sect also collapsed, leaving the Sect facing an uncertain future.

Chung Myung, the 13th-generation disciple of the Mount Hua sect, did not heed the teachings of the sect. Regarded as a supreme genius, Chung Myung was lazy in his cultivation, always practicing in a reluctant way to handle his senior brothers yet still achieving extraordinary strength.

This led to him resorting to fists before words. It wasn’t until he collapsed in front of the corpses of his fellow disciples that he regretted his actions. If he had cultivated more, he would have saved another life; nevertheless, it’s too late.

Fortunately, fate granted Chung Myung a second chance, reincarnating him a hundred years later. This time, he is a beggar child. As soon as he wakes up, only 2 questions come to his mind:  “Am I a beggar?” and “What happened to Mount Hua?”.

While the former is too obvious, the latter is replied with another question: “What is Mount Hua?”. At this point, Chung Myung finally realizes that the once glorious Mount Hua sect has faded into obscurity, the plum blossom is now dead.

His mission now is to restore Mount Hua to its former glory, marking the resurgence of the mightiest sect and the beginning of a new legend.

  1. Review

Rarely does a story begin with such a brutal battle, only to trade victory for the demise of a sect, promising a well-developed and highly-expected storyline. As the story progresses, we will witness the step-by-step resurgence of Mount Hua under Chung Myung’s leadership, with plenty of whimsical moments among the disciples.

Despite being the youngest disciple, Chung Myung instills fear in his senior brothers, even the direct disciples. His aggressive and “violent” nature in his past life remains. The seniors are forced into hellish training sessions by their youngest brother, what a shame!

Reading this series, we will explore that the essence of Mount Hua lies in unity, with individuals rallying together towards a common goal. They only “suffer” the main character’s rage to serve the funny side of the story.

The iconic slogan in the story also stems from there: “Close the door. Unleash Chung Myung (the mad dog)”.

Other than that, from the outset, the author instills an insatiable curiosity in readers. We may wonder if the Heavenly Demon Cheon Ma also resurrects like our main character does as he died at ease and left a word “This is not the end”.

The bold declaration leaves readers pondering, as the resurgence of Mount Hua implies a similar fate for the Demonic Sect. The clash between the two factions is inevitable. Will Chung Myung surpass his absolute former self and lead Mount Hua to victory against the demonic sect?

Let’s uncover the answers through the unfolding pages of the comic.
